Publications.

I always submit for publication.

It feels like some sort of nod to what we do, someone see’s it, accepts it and publishes it either in print or online.

It’s a double-edged sword though because we are supposed to just do the work we want to do and not want any kind of recognition. We are to create for the sake of creating.

Have you ever thought about that?
How social media has changed being creative, how now we have to show the world what we do or we don’t gain any kind of recognition if we don’t. It’s weird.

When was the last time you went to a gallery or picked up an alternative art magazine?
It seems we learn almost everything from living online and I agree there are many upsides to that but there is a lot of imposter syndrome and comparison plaguing the creatives and it can really drag you down.

I think you can tell where I am coming from with this post.

I am in it, the thick of it and am looking for the light at the end of it.

In the meantime, I will leave you with this project that I did in one of my most favourte places in the world, Tofino. I shot film and took portraits of the surfers. I asked them and they said yes.
