Change.

The only thing that stays the same in our lives is change.

I am about to embark on a big on in September. I have chosen to take a full time corporate job and use the time I have off to nurture my creative pursuits.

I read Rick Ruben’s book a while ago and another book that is called Make Your Art No Matter What and both of those have given me the insight of needing something regular instead of continuing down the freelance path.

I love the freedom of being a free agent, I don’t love the stress it creates with my schedule, precarious finances, the constant hustle and the time spent alone. I am a creative creature who thrives in a connected community and often that comes from work. It comes from having an interest too and when you have a regular schedule and a regular pay check you can have a routine that gives you the ability to foster those interests and even plan vacations without having panic attacks.

I think a lot of people idolize my life and for a long time I have to admit that I did too. The past two years have found me really taking time to examine my mental health and with that examination I realized that I miss the continuity, the regular schedule and can really use the regular pay check.

I am still working on creative projects, I am upcycling clothing and have someone doing some sewing for me. I write every day and I am pursuing my long term photo project on a regular basis. These things are balls I keep in the air beacuse they help me breathe.

A regular job, with a regular schedule, benefits, a regular pay check and some really great people to work with add to that ability to breathe.

So stay tuned as this unfolds.

I am both excited and scared shitless so let’s go.
